Lott, Stegall sweep MACCC Volleyball Honors

Oct. 1, 2024 – For the third week in a row, Northwest has swept the MACCC Player of the Week accolades for volleyball, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced on Tuesday morning.

Outside hitter Rachel Stegall garnered offensive POTW honors, while opposite hitter Anna Lott racked up defensive recognition. It is the first MACCC Player of the Week award for both sophomores.

A native of Flowood, Stegall had a strong week offensively for Northwest, guiding the Lady Rangers to a 4-0 week with wins against Pearl River, Jones College, Frontier and East Central College. The William Carey University transfer provided 60 kills for Northwest and 18 service aces, with her season-high of 17 kills occurring in a 3-1 win against Jones College on Sept. 25. Stegall’s season-high of seven service aces came in last Saturday’s 3-0 shutout against East Central College.

Defensively, Lott totaled 13 blocks for the week, leading the Lady Rangers in that statistical category. The Bartlett, Tenn. native totaled 10 of her 13 blocks in a pair of conference wins against Pearl River and Jones College, as she was credited with five apiece in both matches.

Previous MACCC Player of the Week accolades have gone to Layla Dyer, who won both offensive and defensive honors last week. The Lafayette, La. native also won offensive honors two weeks ago, with Kaya Coleman earning the defensive award.

Since Sept. 8, Northwest has embarked on a 12-match winning streak, bolstering the Lady Rangers’ overall record to 16-6, while jumping out to a 3-0 start in conference play. The Lady Rangers will visit Meridian on Wednesday, Oct. 2 for a 6 p.m. start time.
