Hustle Rally Falls Short Against Vipers
Southaven, Miss. — The Memphis Hustle (3-4) mounted a furious comeback but fell 130-125 to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2-2) on Education Day at Landers Center Wednesday morning.
Charlie Brown Jr. led the Hustle with 23 points and six rebounds, while Nate Hinton added 21 points. Evan Gilyard chipped in 17 points and six assists, and Tyler Burton nearly recorded a triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. DeJon Jarreau and Lucas Williamson provided a spark off the bench with 14 points apiece.
The Vipers were paced by Teddy Allen, who scored 36 points off the bench and drained eight 3-pointers. Kevon Harris contributed 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while Daishen Nix posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 assists. Efe Abogidi added 19 points and three blocks.
Rio Grande Valley surged ahead with a 30-17 run in the third quarter, building a 24-point lead with just over eight minutes left. Memphis responded with a 33-10 rally to cut the deficit to one, but Nix’s late layup and clutch free throws sealed the win for the Vipers.
Despite the loss, the Hustle dominated the paint 60-42 and scored 21 second-chance points. Memphis also dished out 25 assists on 44 field goals, while the Vipers connected on 20 shots from beyond the arc at a 46.5 percent clip.
The Hustle will wrap up their four-game homestand with another matchup against the Vipers on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.
