Hustle have training camp ahead of season tip off vs. Mexico City

  • • Head coach Rob Sanicola embraces “grit and grind” mentality in first season at helm
  • • Returning players bring leadership, continuity to new-look Hustle roster
  • • Training camp underway this week inside FedExForum

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Hustle officially tipped off training camp this week inside FedExForum, preparing for their 2025 NBA G League season opener on Nov. 8-9 at home against the Mexico City Capitanes at the Landers Center.

The new campaign marks the first full season under head coach Rob Sanicola, who moves into the top role after serving as an assistant last year. Sanicola, who previously spent nearly two decades coaching Division III basketball, said the G League’s player-development mission mirrors his experience helping overlooked players reach their full potential.

“When the G League opportunity came along, it made so much sense,” Sanicola said. “It’s about helping players realize their potential and showing my own kids that sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone to chase something bigger.”

Sanicola emphasized that his Hustle squad will continue to reflect the “grit and grind” identity that defines the Memphis Grizzlies organization, focusing on defense, pace, and effort.

“We’re going to defend, play fast, and do everything the Grizzlies do,” Sanicola said. “We want our style to match our community — hardworking and gritty.”

Returning players such as guard Tyler Burton bring both experience and resilience. Burton, who battled back from injury last year and impressed during the NBA Summer League, said he’s ready to contribute at a higher level.

“Last year, I went straight from injury to the court not really knowing what I could do,” Burton said. “Now, I know what I’m capable of — the pace, shot-making, and athletic plays that fit perfectly with the Grizzlies’ system.”

Sanicola added that the Hustle’s roster is built around versatility, athleticism, and leadership, with returning players helping new additions quickly adjust to the team’s philosophy.

The team’s focus remains squarely on player development and earning a G League playoff berth.
