Hustle fall to Birmingham in final road Showcase Cup game

The Memphis Hustle (4-9) dropped their final road game of the NBA G League Showcase Cup 102-99 to the Birmingham Squadron (6-6) on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Two-way transfer GG Jackson II led the Hustle scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Jason Preston contributed 14 points. David Johnson added 14 points off the bench. Matthew Hurt tallied 13 points. Davon Reed finished with nine points, five rebounds and seven assists.

Jalen Crutcher paced the Squadron with a career-high 39 points and seven made 3-pointers. Trey Jemison added 16 points and 13 rebounds. Malcolm Hill contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds. Izaiah Brockinton tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hustle trailed by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, with the Hustle going on a 29-12 run to take the lead into the fourth quarter. With the teams knotted at 99, Crutcher drained a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to give Birmingham the lead. Hurt’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer fell short.

The Hustle assisted on 27 of 37 field goals. Memphis outscored Birmingham 39-15 in bench points. The Squadron outpaced the Hustle 46-36 in the paint.
