Hustle acquire returning player rights to David Johnson
Team also gets a 2023 second round pick in trade with Raptors 905
The Memphis Hustle announced on Thursday, Aug. 31, that the team acquired the returning player rights to guard David Johnson and a 2023 second round pick (via Rio Grande Valley) from Raptors 905 for the Hustle’s first round pick in 2024 and the returning player rights to guards Derrick Walton Jr. and Tremont Waters.
Johnson (6-4, 203) has appeared in 73 games (48 starts) across two seasons with Raptors 905 and has averaged 10.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 22.8 minutes. Johnson made two appearances with the Toronto Raptors during the 2021-22 season. The 22-year-old Louisville, Ky. native was selected with the 47th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after two seasons of college basketball with Louisville.
Walton Jr. (6-0, 185) has appeared in 71 games with the Motor City Cruise, Ontario Clippers and Sioux Falls Skyforce and 45 regular season games over four NBA seasons with the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat after going undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft following a four-year career at Michigan.
Waters (5-10, 175), the 2019-20 NBA G League Rookie of the Year, has appeared in 65 regular season games with the Maine Red Claws, South Bay Lakers and Wisconsin Herd and 40 regular season games over three NBA seasons with the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards since he was selected 51st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft out of LSU.
