Hernando sweeps South Panola cross country meet

Hernando won both boys and girls team titles, and Hernando runners were the individual champions at Saturday’s South Panola Invitational meet in Batesville.  

The Hernando boys won the team title with a score of 32, six points better than second-place Lafayette (Oxford). In third place was Senatobia with a team score of 76. 

Among Hernando runners, Trace Thornhill was the individual titleist with a time of 17:48.14. Aaron Richardson was fourth 19:11.72. Teammates Nathan Jenkins, Josh Taylor, and Ryland Hunter were 8th, 9th, and 10th respectively.  

In the girls’ race, Kyleigh Carter of Hernando led the way to an individual title and a team title for the Lady Tigers. Carter ran the 5,000 meters in 20:56.81 as Hernando scored 26 points. Natalie Burge was fourth overall at 22:49.92, followed by Lillian Graves, Abby White and Grey Weiss in sixth through eighth place respectively.  

The South Panola girls were second among teams with 69 points, followed by Pillow Academy in third. 

Hernando was the only DeSoto County school competing in Saturday’s meet.
