You would think there would be a home team roll around the basket and if you’re the home team you might get some shots to go in just for that. But in the case of Lewisburg basketball Friday night, nothing seemed to go in a pair of Region 1-7A contests at home against DeSoto Central.
The Jaguars boys remained unbeaten in region play with a 74-29 victory and the Lady Jags were solid in their 57-31 win.
(B) DeSoto Central 74, Lewisburg 29: The Jaguars opened the contest with a 5-2 lead on their way to a 13-5 lead after one quarter. DeSoto Central’s Blake Price led the way with six points in the period.
The Jaguars broke the game open in the second quarter by out-scoring the Patriots 30-6 for a 43-11 lead at intermission. Hunter Avant led his team in scoring during the second quarter with 10 points, including a pair of three-point shots. Price added another six points in the period.
The pressure continued in the third quarter and once the margin reached 35 points, the clock kept going with the mercy rule going into effect, a rule that kept the clock going for the remainder of the contest.
DeSoto Central’s lead was 62-24 after three quarters on the way to the 74-29 final.
Three players were in double figures for the Jaguars in the win, led by Josh Jackson’s 15 points. Price finished with 12 and Avant added 11 more. Lewisburg was led by Chandler Craig, whose 11 points made him the only Patriot in double digits.
(G) DeSoto Central 57, Lewisburg 31: The Lady Jags held a 14-4 lead after one quarter with Londen Armstrong scoring eight of DeSoto Central’s 14 points in the period. Lakelynn Knight’s five second quarter points helped the Lady Jags take a 28-9 lead over the Lady Patriots at intermission.
In the third quarter, Knight continued to produce on the scoresheet, as her seven points in the quarter helped DeSoto Central take a 41-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter of play.
Knight was the leading scorer for the Lady Jags, scoring 21 points, followed by Armstrong with 19.
Lewisburg was led in scoring by Parker Moss with nine points.
