Five Lady Rangers chosen for All-MACCC volleyball honors
Stegall earns first team all-conference selection
Nov. 11. 2024 – Following a 25-win season that produced an MACCC Championship and a runner-up finish in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, Northwest has had five players selected for the All-MACCC Team, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced Monday morning.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Stegall was the only Lady Ranger chosen for First Team All-MACCC honors, while freshman outside hitter Maddie Smith, redshirt sophomore middle blocker Kaya Coleman and sophomore setter Layla Dyer all earned second team accolades. Sophomore opposite hitter Anna Lott was the only Honorable Mention selection for Northwest.
In her lone season for the Lady Rangers, Stegall made a strong impact. The Flowood native and William Carey University transfer ranked second on the team in kills, earning 314 and finishing just behind Smith for the team lead. Stegall also totaled a team-high 75 service aces for the season, finishing second in the program record books for single-season and career service aces.
Smith led the team with 348 kills, which is good for second-most in a single season behind the record of 367 from Jacia Hayes (2023).
Coleman became the first Northwest player to finish with 100 blocks or more in a single season, totaling 111 for the 2024 season. The Cobden, Ill. product and Lincoln Memorial University commit finished with 129 career blocks, finishing fifth in the Lady Rangers’ record books.
Dyer re-wrote the program’s record books for assists, setting the career record as a freshman with 911. This season, the Lafayette, La. native surpassed that total, finishing with 1,127 for the year and 2,038 for her career. Additionally, Dyer also racked up 371 digs for her sophomore campaign, tying Kaley Rikard for third-highest in a single season.
Dyer also closed out her Northwest career with a program-record 710 digs, eclipsing the previous record of 574 set by Cristen Cleveland (2022-23). She also played a record 76 matches over her two-year career, while ranking fourth in career service aces (70).
Lott totaled 77 blocks this season, finishing only second to teammate Coleman. The Bartlett, Tenn. native closed out her Northwest career with 142 blocks, tying Kailey Gooch (2022-23) for third all-time. Lott also played 75 matches over her career, ranking second all-time and only one behind Dyer.
Northwest posted a 25-9 overall record, earning the program’s third straight winning season and the Lady Rangers’ second consecutive 20-win campaign. Through five complete seasons, coach Allison Burchyett now owns a career overall record of 88-71
