Brigham named head cross country, track and field coach at Rust College

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — Rust College has named Damien Brigham as the new head coach for its men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Brigham arrives with a strong coaching résumé and a history of developing elite athletes at the collegiate and international levels. He replaces longtime leadership and will be tasked with building Rust’s programs into consistent competitors within the region and beyond.

Brigham, a graduate of Jackson State University, began his career at Paul Quinn College before moving on to coaching roles at McNeese State, Coastal Carolina, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Alabama A&M. Over his career, he has mentored several All-Americans and national qualifiers, including:

  • Dominic Smith, NCAA Division II Indoor Champion
  • Joshua Bunton of Lane College, the school’s first All-American
  • Jasmine Webb, a USATF World Championships qualifier
  • Kartavius Hamilton, a USATF Junior Championships qualifier
  • Rinsldo Moore, who placed fourth nationally in the 60-meter hurdles
  • Triston Joynes, who represented Bermuda in the 2012 Carifta Championships

“I want to thank AD Jeremy Patterson for trusting me to lead the track and field and cross-country programs in the right direction,” Brigham said. “I’m very excited to be at Rust College and look forward to what the future has in store for our teams.”
