VITA volunteers set to assist in tax filing

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will provide free income tax assistance to low-t0-moderate-income residents who cannot prepare their own tax returns.

From Jan. 30-April 10, VITA volunteers will be available at Brown Missionary Baptist Church South Campus, 7200 Swinnea Road in Southaven, three times a week during that period.

Hours will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays, and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Due to COVID-19 considerations, taxpayers may drop off their tax related documentation provided the taxpayer grants permission to prepare and quality review their return without the taxpayer being present.

The taxpayer must return to our site in order to sign their tax return prior to submission to the IRS.

Minimum documents required to prepare your return include:

1. Valid driver license

2. Valid social security cards for yourself and all dependents,

3. W-2s,

4. Verification of your routing and checking information (for direct deposit)

5. Prior year tax return, and

6. Any other documentation to support your federal tax return.

Although it is not mandatory, taxpayers are encouraged to visit church website to view or print off Form 13614-C and Form 14446 to speed up drop off process.

Volunteers are committed to protecting your privacy and safety throughout the process.
