Vaccination site closed again for weather
The DeSoto County COVID-19 site for vaccinations through the Mississippi State Health Department (MSDH) at the Landers Center is closed again Wednesday due to the winter weather event across North Mississippi. Appointments for Wednesday at the Southaven site have been automatically rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28. Those people were to be contacted by MSDH regarding the appointment change.
MSDH Wednesday reported 684 new coronavirus cases in the state through 6 p.m. Tuesday and there have been 23 new Mississippi deaths related to the virus.
DeSoto County has had 19,331 positive cases of coronavirus and 226 deaths since the pandemic was declared last March. That is an increase of 58 cases and no deaths since Tuesday.
MSDH reported that for the week ending Feb. 6, the test positivity rate in DeSoto County had dropped to 12.6 percent. The weekly rate last month had been as high as 23 percent, MSDH reported.
As of Monday there were 564 hospital patients statewide with a confirmed case of coronavirus, a drop of eight from Sunday and down from 1,006 from Jan. 26. Mississippi patients with COVID-19 in an intensive care unit rose slightly from the day previous to 157 on Monday, compared to 153 on Sunday.
On Monday, Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven reported 27 coronavirus patients in the hospital and three COVID-19 patients in intensive care.
Methodist-Olive Branch Hospital had six COVID-19 patients on Monday and there was one patient in its ICU unit.
