Two-vehicle crash claims life of Olive Branch man

An Olive Branch man has died as the result of injuries suffered in a Thursday head-on crash in Tate County.  

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports that two vehicles collided on state Highway 305 near Peyton Road in Independence about 4:45 p.m. Thursday. One vehicle, a 2015 Hyundai Sonata was driven by Toni D. Matthews, age 20 of Livingston, Louisiana. The other vehicle involved was a 2022 Toyota Camry, driven by Justin B. Hyland, age 28 of Olive Branch. 

Hyland’s vehicle was traveling north on Highway 305 and Matthews’ car was traveling south.  

MHP reports that Hyland received fatal injuries in the crash. Matthews was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.  

The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
