Two residents rescued from Olive Branch house fire; five dogs found safe
An elderly woman and an elderly man were rescued from a house fire Thursday evening in the 10000 block of Oak Leaf Drive in Olive Branch, according to the City of Olive Branch. The Olive Branch Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 7 p.m. for a possible structure fire.
Olive Branch police officers arrived before the fire department and assisted the woman out of the residence on foot with two dogs. She was taken to Baptist DeSoto Hospital for observation. Firefighters later found the man confused and trapped in a bathroom at the rear of the residence and rescued him. He was transported to the Regional One Hospital Burn Unit, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and esophageal burns. The department said he was expected to make a full recovery as of its last report.
Engine 3 and Truck 3 found smoke coming from the structure, with heavy smoke inside and flames in the kitchen and living room. Firefighters used what the department described as a quick, aggressive attack and contained the fire to those areas, preventing further spread and possible damage.
Three additional dogs were rescued from the home, bringing the total to five. Three ambulances were at the scene, and emergency medical crews treated and transported the two residents and assisted with the dogs. All five dogs were determined to be OK after assessment and treatment.
No injuries were reported among fire personnel. The fire appeared to originate in the kitchen, but its cause remained undetermined, the City of Olive Branch said.
