Two added to county COVID-19 toll

There have been 1,527 additional cases of coronavirus reported in Mississippi, according to Friday’s update from the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH), and six additional COVID-19 related deaths. 

Two of the latest victims from the virus have come from DeSoto County, according to MSDH, for a total now of 131 county victims since the pandemic was declared in March.  

DeSoto County has reported 13,822 positive cases of coronavirus, which is an increase of 148 from Thursday’s update.  

As a state, Mississippi has had 204,178 cases and 4,562 deaths related to COVID-19, according to MSDH, which also reports there have been 154,669 presumed recoveries from the virus since March and through Dec. 20.  

MSDH is not updating the hospitalization numbers through the holiday and reported that it will resume providing that information on Dec. 28.
