Due to hazardous weather conditions of ice and below-freezing temperatures, the DeSoto County Tree Giveaway was rescheduled and held indoors at the BankPlus SportsCenter in Southaven on Friday, Feb. 12.

Volunteers from many organizations, such as the DeSoto Civic Garden Club, arrived early to set up tables, and wrap tree seedlings for distribution to the public.

Trees that were given away included: Bald Cypress, Eastern Red Cedar, Eastern Redbud, Ginkgo, Hydrangeas (Pee Wee) Loblolly Pine, Paw Paw, native Pecan, Persimmon, River Birch, Sawtooth Oak, Shumard Oak, Silver Maple, Sweet Bay Magnolia, Tulip Poplar, Weeping Willow, White Oak and Yoshino Cherry. This occasion was sponsored by the DeSoto County Soil and Water Conservation District under the direction of Meleiah Tyrus.
