Suspect dead after pursuit, crash following disturbance
A late night disturbance involving shots being fired led to a suspect crashing into two Southaven Police vehicles as he tried to flee the scene. The suspect eventually crashed into a wood line, fatally injuring himself.
Police say they were called to the North Creek Apartments about 2 a.m. Friday morning on the call of the disturbance and shots being fired at another person.
As officers arrived, the suspect vehicle struck a police squad car. In the following pursuit that went westbound on Stateline Road, police say the suspect vehicle started driving erratically and again struck a police vehicle and the collision caused that vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into a wood-line. The suspect driver suffered critical injuries as a result of that crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, Stateline Road, between state Highway 301 and Horn Lake Creek was shut down for the investigation and it is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.
The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash itself and police have not identified the suspect victim in the case at this time.
