Supervisors, aldermen to meet this week
DeSoto County governmental bodies have released their agendas for this week’s meetings. The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors meet Monday morning at 9 a.m. and Tuesday evening is when local Boards of Aldermen meet; Southaven, Horn Lake and Hernando at 6 p.m., and Olive Branch at 6:30 p.m.
DeSoto County Board of Supervisors
One item on the agenda is the consideration of a move to name the Coldwater River bridge over Holly Springs Road in honor of the late Supervisor Harvey Lee. The Harvey Lee Memorial Bridge would honor the former supervisor who died in an apparent ATV accident in 2014. Harvey’s brother Michael Lee was appointed to fill the remainder of the term, elected to a full term in 2015 and re-elected in 2019.
Aldermen will consider amending an ordinance concerning commercial zone districts.
Aldermen will be asked to accept the lowest/best bids for the Vaiden Avenue and Industrial Drive asphalt paving project, and advertise for the East Parkway Water Plant improvements.
Fire Chief David Linville will present the annual Fire Department Awards during the Tuesday evening meeting. Board members will also vote to approve the hiring of Alexander Thompson as an IT Technician at a salary of $52,000 annually with benefits.
Olive Branch Board of Aldermen
Mayor Ken Adams’ Executive Assistant Samantha Brock will be presented the January Mayor’s Award. Mayor Ken Adams will provide an update and citizen comments will be made by K.T. Robbins making a request for senior citizens. Marcus Turner, a candidate for DeSoto County Supervisor District 1 will also appear before the board.
