Stevenson receives home builders endorsement

July 16, 2025 – District 1 Republican state Senate candidate Jon Stevenson of Hernando received another endorsement this week, this time from the Home Builders Association of North Mississippi (HBANMS) Executive Board. Stevenson is a member of the HBANMS.

The board sent a communication to its members endorsing Stevenson in his campaign against incumbent state Sen. Michael McLendon (R-Hernando). The Republican primary is Aug. 5 with the winner to face Democrat Chris Hannah in the Nov. 4 general election.

“Jon has long demonstrated a deep commitment to housing and economic development in Mississippi,” the HBANMS communication read. “When elected, he will be a champion for our industry—supporting pro-growth policies, cutting through red tape, and advocating for small businesses and the hardworking tradespeople who keep DeSoto and Tate counties thriving.”

The e-mail added a P.S. with screenshots of social media items McLendon posted after Stevenson was endorsed by the county’s three Republican mayors. HBANMS claims McLendon’s responses were negative about builders and developers and was another reason behind its backing of Stevenson in the race.
