Donald Trump has, this week, completed the greatest comeback in modern American political history. The only comparable situation in the last 100 years would be Richard Nixon’s defeat at the hands of John F. Kennedy in the questionable election of 1960. Nixon then went on to lose the 1962 California Gubernatorial election before being elected President in 1968. Nixon, however, did not face the challenges Trump has faced over the last 4 years.
Even though corporate media has challenged the “lawfare” narrative, it is fairly obvious to Republican and moderate voters that President Trump has been subjected to an unprecedented campaign of lawfare to challenge his ability to return to the Presidency. Democrat controlled jurisdictions changed laws, increased statute of limitations, and leveraged partisan District Attorneys and Judges to shackle President Trump under chains of financial judgements and criminal convictions. Fortunately the American people didn’t believe this, so much so, that 74 million American voters decided to acquit him of all charges.
Democratic strategists, however, failed to account for the sheer stubbornness of President Trump. Just like in a field in Butler, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump doesn’t understand the meaning of quitting. He has an unusually high energy level and strong force of will that allows him to shrug off challenges that most people would melt under. That more than anything, I believe, is what underlies his appeal to the American people.
So we are looking at the next four years of a President that has endured unprecedented law fare and should feel justified in seeking revenge toward the people that abused their authority to persecute him. The question is, will he? I don’t believe so. President Trump seems to have an uncanny connection to the concerns and aspirations of working class Americans. This is all the more amazing considering he’s a New York billionaire and I believe that he will focus all of his energies in delivering on his promises to the American people.
I believe that President Trump’s administration will be focused on his campaign promises for better or worse. I believe that he will push deregulation to unleash American business from the shackles of bureaucratic interference. I believe that the size of the Federal bureaucracy will undergo a dramatic downsizing, utilizing Elon Musk’s cost cutting talents, since they will have their regulatory authority curtailed through deregulation.
These policies will hopefully have the effect of dramatically decreasing Federal spending at the same time increasing growth in the American economy. This will decrease the Federal debt in comparison to the size of the American economy and that will necessarily bring down interest rates and reduce financing costs for the average person’s homes and cars.
Finally President Trump’s tariff policies will have the effect of leveling the playing field in international trade. Chinese companies, at the behest of the Communist Government have been dumping products in the US market at or below cost. This dumping has the effect of decimating American business and is at its heart, anti competitive behavior and in violation of capitalist norms. New tariffs that equalize the playing field and penalize Chinese companies for their violations of market principals and their use of slave labor, is only fair.
As for the people that have persecuted President Trump over the past four years, what should be done? I would say that investigations are necessary. Impartial investigations that hold individuals accountable for wrongdoing and exonerate individuals that have nothing wrong are necessary to restore faith in our judiciary and administration. We must hold people accountable that have violated our Constitutional rights and norms. We must restore the right of free speech to the people.
President Trump’s election is like every election. It holds the promise of a new beginning and it also holds the threat of failure. If Donald Trump can use the stubbornness that helped him endure the assassination attempts and law fare of the last four years to reform the Federal bureaucracy and economy, he will leave this country fundamentally better off than he found it.
