State gas prices lowest in nation ahead of Labor Day
Your Labor Day holiday weekend gas dollar should go a little farther in Mississippi than elsewhere in the country. The latest average prices indicate Mississippi has the lowest average price for regular unleaded than any other state at 3.305, according to information from AAA, the American Automobile Association.
Mississippi’s average price is eight cents more than the next lowest, Louisiana at $3.388. Arkansas was third among the states with 3.414, followed by Texas and Alabama, respectively.
While the southern states have the lowest gasoline prices, drivers out west are paying the most per gallon.
Californians pay the most at $5.294 per gallon, followed by Washington at $5.109. Hawaii, Oregon, and Alaska follow, in order.
In Mississippi, Jones County is where the lowest average prices are at $3.167. The most expensive prices are in Claiborne County at $3.724. DeSoto County prices are at $3.313.
According to the gas price reporting website Gasbuddy, the lowest price in DeSoto County is at the Southaven Sam’s Club at a member price of $3.01 a gallon. That is followed by the Murphy USA and Walmart stations in Horn Lake at $3.04.
