SpaceXAI Buys 3 Southaven Homes, Leases Highway 51 Warehouse

SpaceXAI is expanding its footprint in Southaven. County property records show the company has bought three homes near its power plant, according to The Daily Memphian, which also reports that the company is leasing a large distribution building on U.S. Highway 51.

The Daily Memphian reported Oct. 17 that MZX Tech, a SpaceXAI subsidiary, recently bought three homes near the power plant at 2875 Stanton Road S. in Southaven, based on DeSoto County records. The same report says another lien has been filed against SpaceXAI. It summed up the trend this way: “SpaceXAI continues to grow in Southaven as do its debts.”

SpaceXAI Southaven home purchases follow buyout offers

The sales follow SpaceXAI’s move, through MZX Tech, to begin offering to buy homes from some neighbors of its Southaven operations earlier this fall. The offers came as the company faced lawsuits and complaints about noise from turbines at the plant.

Not every nearby homeowner has been part of the process. In late September, The Daily Memphian reported that some Southaven homeowners living near the power plant had not received offers despite reports of buyouts. Some renters in the Colonial Hills area have also been told to move out.

Details such as the sale prices and the exact addresses of the three homes were not included in the publicly available portion of the report. The amount of the new lien and who filed it were not disclosed there either.

Warehouse lease on Highway 51

On Oct. 14, The Daily Memphian reported that SpaceXAI is leasing a Southaven property set up for distribution and logistics at 3715 U.S. Highway 51. The report places the deal among a series of industrial leases that have given DeSoto County and the wider Memphis-area industrial market several straight quarters of positive absorption, meaning more space leased than vacated.

The warehouse lease comes the same week Southaven landed ALO’s planned $176 million fulfillment and distribution center, which is expected to bring more than 400 jobs.

What it means for Southaven residents

  • Neighbors of the plant: The recorded sales show buyouts are now closing, not just being offered.
  • Liens: Another lien has been filed against the company, according to the report. A lien is a legal claim filed against a property.
  • Industrial growth: The Highway 51 lease adds to SpaceXAI’s growing presence in the city.

Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite has previously described SpaceXAI as a good corporate citizen for offering buyouts near its operations.
