Billy G. Smith was recognized by the Board of Supervisors for his service as District 2 appointee on the DeSoto County Planning Commission and on the County Board of Adjustment during Monday’s board meeting in Hernando. Smith is retiring

District 2 Supervisor Mark Gardner introduced the resolution of appreciation by saying Smith has been involved in community service for about 50 years. Gardner said he remembered working with Smith as volunteers in planning the Southaven Springfest back in the 1980s and 90s.

“He has served us faithfully on the Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission and that is sometimes maybe a thankless job, right?” Gardner said.

Smith retired in April from the Planning Commission after 11 years and had previously been on the Board of Adjustment.
