Slightly more homestead exemption applications in 2025

DeSoto County Tax Assessor Jeff Fitch Wednesday offered some statistics regarding the applications for Homestead Exemptions in 2025. April 1 was the deadline for applying for Homestead Exemption this year in DeSoto County.

Homestead Exemption offers property tax relief to eligible homeowners on their primary residences. Applications are accepted annually from Jan. 2 through April 1 at Fitch’s Office in the County Administration building in Hernando.

“This year we took 3,810 applications compared to 3,629 last year,” Fitch said Wednesday. “In really strong growth years we have taken as many as 5,000. In total, we have 43,749 active homesteads in DeSoto County.”
