Schools report weekly COVID-19 numbers

Here is the weekly report on new coronavirus cases and quarantines from the DeSoto County School District (DCS) for the week ending Nov. 19.

For the week, DCS schools reported 34 new cases and 75 new students in quarantine from COVID-19. Those numbers have remained fairly steady compared to past weeks and continues to be quite low compared to early in the school year.

Lake Cormorant Elementary School had the most number of new cases in the district with four and it was followed by DeSoto Central Middle School and Horn Lake Middle School, each with three.

The school with the most new quarantines was Lake Cormorant Elementary with 15, followed by Horn Lake Middle with 13 and Southaven Middle School with 10. There were 16 attendance centers in the state’s largest school district with no cases or quarantines last week.

Schools are not in session this week for the Thanksgiving holiday, so an updated report should be be expected again until Dec. 6.

The Monday update from the Mississippi State Department of Health recorded four additional death reports from DeSoto County between Sept. 1-Nov. 13.
