Rain fails to dampen Dickens of a Christmas
While the Saturday rainfall in DeSoto County made the day in Hernando feel like an afternoon in cloudy, dreary London, the annual Dickens of a Christmas continued during the day.
Dickens of a Christmas started Friday night with the lighting of the Christmas tree in the Courthouse Square and the reading of a Christmas story by Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson.
Skating on an ice rink took place Friday night and during the day Saturday and a Christmas High Tea was held inside 1 Memphis Street event venue. DeSoto Shriners were having a Christmas tree fundraiser inside a retail store on the Square, plus entertainment, balloon twister on the Square, and more, all while the Hernando Farmers Market was also being held.
Talented folk craft artists brought history and tradition to life as they demonstrated their skills for all to see! From weaving and pottery to woodwork and blacksmithing, these artisans shared the beauty of their crafts, each piece reflecting their passion and expertise. Carolers also sang and entertained near the courthouse.
Rain forced some events to be canceled. and while it may have kept some away on Saturday, those who were there were able to enjoy the day did continue to celebrate the historical background of Hernando in the Victorian era, while also supporting the city’s Christmas Open House.
