July 28 – DeSoto County Democrats heard from U.S. Senate candidate Ty Pinkins Friday evening during a party gathering at the M.R. Davis Public Library in Southaven.

It was the second time for Pinkins to campaign in DeSoto County in a little over a week after he spoke to the First Joint Annual Conference of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church’s Fourth Episcopal District in Southaven on Tuesday, July 16 at the Landers Center in Southaven.

Pinkins, who is running against incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, shared his personal story as he asked for support.

”There was an incredible amount of momentum around the idea of creating an America that provides opportunities for everyone, where women have the right to decide what they can do with their bodies, and where the leadership looks like the communities that they serve,” said Dr. Deborah Williams, DeSoto County Democratic Executive Committee Chair.

On hand for the evening were state Rep. Hester Jackson McCray (D-Horn Lake), and Horn Lake Alderwoman LaShonda Johnson, as well as Dianne Black, who  is running against incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly, as well as party officials and supporters.

Pinkins is an Army veteran of over 20 years, moving from the military into a legal career specializing in veterans’ rights and advocacy. He ran unsuccessfully for Secretary of State against Michael Watson last year.
