Panola County Sheriff’s Office honors Constable Raye Hawkins during Police Week
During Police Week 2026, the Panola County Sheriff’s Office said it remembered Constable Raye Hawkins, who was struck and killed in the line of duty in 2019.
The office said in a social media post that Hawkins was killed while assisting other agencies in the apprehension of a stolen truck occupied by several teenagers.
The post quoted an old saying: “Heroes really die twice, their life truly ends only when their name is spoken or remembered for the very last time,” and added, “This will never happen on our watch.”
The Panola County Sheriff’s Office concluded the message with, “We miss you, Raye,” the post said.
