One dead, two arrested in Hernando weekend shooting
May 18, 2025 – One person is dead and two are under arrest in connection with a fatal shooting at a Hernando apartment Saturday night.
Hernando police said the victim was identified as Orenzo Lynn Odom, age 41. Odom was shot during a physical altercation at the Avondale Apartments, 986 Hill Street in Hernando. He received medical attention at the scene and was taken to Baptist-DeSoto with an apparent gunshot wound, but died of his wounds, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call about 6:50 p.m. Saturday to the apartment building. Witnesses were able to identify a suspect and a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the scene was done. Two people were detained and a firearm was found as a result of the traffic stop.
The pair have since been arrested and were identified as Edrick Thornton, age 49 of Hernando, and Keshay Jones, age 35 also of Hernando. Thornton is charged with murder and Jones is charged with being an accessory after the fact and tampering with physical evidence. They were taken to the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center and were being held without bond.
At this time, items of evidence are being processed and will be turned over to the Mississippi Crime Lab for further analysis, and law enforcement personnel are following up on all information involving the details of this incident.
