SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — One person is dead following an early morning shooting Monday on Interstate 55 in Southaven that has caused significant traffic delays as police continue to investigate.
According to the Southaven Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire involving two vehicles traveling on southbound I-55 near the Church Road and Pleasant Hill Road area. Authorities said the occupants of the vehicles were reportedly shooting at each other while driving.
Authorities confirmed that one person was killed in the incident. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
The shooting has led to major traffic backups along the southbound lanes of I-55 as officers process the scene and search for the vehicles and individuals involved.
Investigators said the case remains active and ongoing. Police are working to identify the vehicles and suspects connected to the shooting.
