Olive Branch again listed among best places for families

The DeSoto County city of Olive Branch almost annually is named among the best places to be in, not only in DeSoto County and Mississippi, but also in the nation.

Once again, Fortune.com has included Olive Branch in its top 50 Best Places to Live for Families.

Olive Branch checks in at number 46 among the top 50, which is led at the top by Silver Spring, Maryland. Last year, the city was number 36 in the same study.

“A great place to live is not one that solely supports a family in the present, but one that will serve them for the long term,” Fortune.com writes in its report. “With a growing portion of Americans caring for both children and aging parents, more people want to live in cities where multigenerational families can thrive. And as the retirement dream is unraveling for many older adults who don’t want to leave the workforce or can’t afford to, finding a place to live that provides a strong job market has never been more critical.”

The city of 46,654 was noted for several things, according to Fortune.com.

“It offers a quiet suburban lifestyle and a relatively affordable cost of living, helping the typical household—earning just over $100,000—really get the most bang for their buck. Its school system, part of DeSoto County School District, is highly regarded; Lewisburg High School and Center Hill High School are both above average in terms of college readiness and student progress. The high school graduation rate in the area is nearly 90 percent.”

The report also noted the 140 acres of parks, the various trails, and a designated senior center.

“It’s an honor to be named one of the best places to live for families once again by Fortune.com,” said Mayor Ken Adams. “The methodology used by Fortune to analyze each place included nearly 200 data categories across five main themes; education, resources for aging adults, general wellness, financial health, and livability. Only one City from each state was selected.”
