New Mississippi Legislation Targets Unpaid Child Support Through Casino Jackpots
Mississippi lawmakers have approved legislation that would allow casino operators to withhold jackpot winnings from people who owe unpaid child support.
The bill has passed both the Mississippi House and Senate and now awaits the governor’s signature. If signed into law, gaming operators across the state would be required to intercept jackpots owed to individuals with child support arrears, then redirect those funds toward the outstanding child support balance.
Supporters say the measure is aimed at strengthening child support enforcement and ensuring children receive the financial support they are owed. If implemented, it would mark the first time Mississippi uses casino jackpot interception as a tool to collect unpaid child support.
