SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The DeSoto County Convention & Visitors Bureau board of directors has appointed Alison Mitchell as the county’s new director of tourism, ushering in a leadership transition aimed at strengthening DeSoto County’s position as a premier destination for travel, events and economic growth.
In her new role, Mitchell will oversee the development and execution of tourism strategies that elevate DeSoto County’s profile across leisure travel, conventions, sports, special events and hospitality.
Mitchell brings more than 25 years of experience in sales and executive leadership, with a track record of building high-performing teams and delivering measurable results. A native Texan, she said the opportunity aligns perfectly with her values, leadership philosophy and passion for community engagement.

“I truly enjoy helping others, and very much look forward to meeting with local leaders and business owners so the tourism department can assist in propelling our area forward,” Mitchell said. “What really attracted me to this position is the community relations element.”
Before joining DeSoto County Tourism, Mitchell served as National Sales Manager for Property Interlink, LLC. Her background in stakeholder relations, business development, customer service and leadership—along with her involvement in the American Business Women’s Association—positions her well for the demands of the tourism sector.
Debbie Mendenhall, executive director of the DeSoto County Convention & Visitors Bureau, said Mitchell’s appointment represents a significant step forward for the organization.
“Alison Mitchell’s appointment as director of tourism marks an exciting new chapter for our organization,” Mendenhall said. “Her experience, innovative mindset and collaborative approach put her in the position to make an immediate and lasting impact, and we look forward to the growth and opportunities ahead under her leadership.”
