The City of Hernando has received a donation from the Maddox Foundation for its mobile tourism app. The $5,000 grant award was made on the steps of the Maddox Foundation in Hernando on Tuesday.
The mobile app began operating and available through the Apple App Store and Google Play last December as a means to promote tourism and help visitors and residents find information about upcoming community-wide events, such as the historically themed Dickens of a Christmas, Hernando Farmers Market, Chamber of Commerce events and more.
The app was made first available through grants from the Mississippi Hills National Area Alliance and was awarded to create a tourism tool for history, culture and city events that include educational opportunities about Hernando’s history. A Maddox Foundation grant helped offset the remaining costs of the app and encourage more visitors to come to Hernando.
“The Maddox Foundation has been an incredible supporter of Hernando,” said City of Hernando Community Development Director Gia Matheny. “We appreciate them considering us for the grant to help offset costs of our mobile tourism app. This technology has given us the ability to share our city and community events with residents and visitors in one place.”
Matheny said events not hosted by the city will require community partners, such as the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce, DeSoto Arts Council, and others to provide the city with details of the events to keep it updated.
She added that there is a special link for arts and culture that allows users to learn about places to explore and users can then develop their own schedule of things to do when in Hernando.
You can search City of Hernando for the app at your app store or click the links found on the City of Hernando website.
