Saturday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, legislators from Mississippi and Alabama were playing against each other for bragging rights, and for charity. House members from the Mississippi state legislature played their Alabama counterparts in a softball game with proceeds from the game went to Children’s of Mississippi in Jackson.
On the field representing DeSoto County were state Reps. Bill Kinkade (R-Byhalia), W.I. “Doc” Harris (R-Hernando), Dan Eubanks (R-Walls) and Justin Keen (R-Byhalia).
The game went to a 5-5 tie between the two sides through nine innings and the teams agreed to play one more inning, which ended in a 7-5 victory for the Alabama representatives.
The Mississippi House members then went on to play a second game Saturday, this time against the leadership of the Mississippi National Guard, a game punctuated by a flyover of a Blackhawk helicopter to start the proceedings. The Guardsmen dominated this contest by a final score of 19-1.
