Hopper named Olive Branch Chamber Executive Director

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — The Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce has named Varina Hopper as its new executive director, bringing a veteran leader in community development and workforce engagement back to the forefront of DeSoto County’s business landscape.

Hopper steps into the role following the retirement of long-time executive director Vickie DuPree, who led the organization for over 30 years before stepping down last year. DuPree was a foundational figure in the city’s growth, and Hopper is expected to build upon that legacy of community partnership.

Hopper arrives with a proven track record of fostering economic growth. She previously served as the executive director of the Horn Lake Chamber of Commerce from 2013 to 2018, where she earned a reputation for energetic leadership and high-impact programming.

“I am thrilled to join the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce,” Hopper said. “Olive Branch is a vibrant and growing community, and I look forward to working with its businesses, leaders, and members to support continued success while having a little fun along the way.”

Hopper’s background bridges the gap between nonprofit management and private-sector strategy. She earned an MBA in entrepreneurship from Louisiana State University Shreveport and a certificate in nonprofit management in 2019.

Her diverse career includes serving as a community development coordinator for the First Tennessee Development District. Most recently, she worked with the Three Rivers Planning & Development District as a career coach for Center Hill and DeSoto Central high schools. In that role, she was instrumental in aligning student education with local workforce needs and career pathways.

The board cited Hopper’s collaborative vision and deep understanding of the North Mississippi business climate as key factors in her selection.

“Varina brings a unique combination of experience and enthusiasm,” the Chamber stated in a release. “We look forward to her leadership as the organization begins its next chapter.”
