Hernando youth serve as Mississippi State Senate pages

Sawyer James McLeane of Hernando recently served as a page for the Mississippi Senate. Pages generally run errands for officials and Senate staff. Sawyer is the son of Matthew and Tara McLeane and attends Hernando High School.

When asked about the week, Sawyer said, “This week, I was given the chance to represent my school while working for the Mississippi State Senate. The work included running papers, grabbing water, and being on time. My time here allowed me to meet and grow closer to many people. I would recommend this and do it again without hesitation. I want to thank all of the amazing people that allowed this to happen.”

Ann Morgan Hasselman of Hernando recently served as a page for the Mississippi Senate. Ann is the daughter of Jay and Lucy Hasselman and attends Hernando High School.

When asked about the week, Ann said, “Getting to witness what goes on behind the scenes at the Capitol has been an amazing experience and has greatly built my knowledge on not just government, but also the state of Mississippi. Not only do we travel around the Capitol building and taking in the beautiful architecture within, but we have also gotten to experience things like discussing the judicial branch with a member of our state’s Supreme Court and visiting the Civil Rights Museum. This experience as a whole has been incredible, and I would recommend it to any student.”
