Gas prices trending higher

September gas prices are now consistently tracking higher, on average, than they were a year ago, according to the latest data from the American Automobile Association, or AAA.

Elevated costs for gasoline are showing up in inflation readings, accounting for almost half the increase of inflation in August, according to the Department of Labor.

Some hope for lower gas prices in the future is there, however, as the switch from summer to winter fuel blends has been made.  In the summer, a more expensive blend of fuel is distributed to keep emissions down.

Here are the latest statistics on gas prices in Mississippi. Gas prices are as of Sept.16. Quoted prices are for regular unleaded.
