Garden club hosts Arc Northwest Mississippi’s Treadway

The January meeting of the DeSoto Civic Garden Club was held at Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch.

The guest speaker was Rebecca Treadway, the Executive Director of the Arc Northwest Mississippi and the title of her program was ” Respect, Dignity, and Inclusion.”

In her presentation, she described how effort must be put forth everyday so that no one with a disability is left behind.

At the conclusion of her program all club members received a brochure which summarizes the objectives and activities of the Arc Northwest Mississippi. Some of the scheduled events for the year that the DeSoto Civic Garden Club has participated in have been “Cookies for Santa ” which is held in December and “Camp Bold”, a summer camp for young people with special needs.

It was also noted at the meeting that The Arc organization has purchased a church near Pleasant Hill Road in Olive Branch, which will be their new base.

The DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc.
