UPDATE: Man dies in FedEx Ground facility accident

Olive Branch Police Monday morning provided information about a Sunday morning incident at the FedEx Ground facility at 7480 Nail Road, an incident that has resulted in the death of a Memphis man.

Police were called to the the facility about 5:15 a.m. Sunday morning in reference to an unresponsive subject. On arrival, staff members told police the victim had been found unresponsive by maintenance personnel.

The victim has been identified as James B. Smith, age 48 of Memphis. The incident remains under investigation, police said.

DeSoto County News reached out to FedEx for information and received the following statement Sunday night from Communications Advisor Shannon Davis: 

“First and foremost, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who are mourning a loved one lost in this accident. Safety is our highest priority and we are cooperating fully with local authorities at this time.”
