DeSoto County officers among those escorting child shooting victim to Tunica County
July 15, 2025 – In a powerful show of unity and compassion, law enforcement officers from four counties came together to escort 6-year-old Marlaysia Braxton home from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital after she was injured in a deadly shooting that took the life of her mother last week in Tunica County.
As Marlaysia was released from the hospital, deputies from the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from DeSoto, Coahoma, and Shelby counties, gave her a full blue-light escort home — a heartfelt gesture meant to replace trauma with support, love, and hope.
“This wasn’t just about safety — it was about healing,” said Tunica County Sheriff K.C. Hamp. “We wanted the blue lights this little girl remembers to be tied not to tragedy, but to strength and a community that stands with her.”
The escort was also a symbolic stand against domestic violence, a tragedy that reaches beyond any one household and into the heart of every community. Law enforcement leaders reminded the public that everyone is affected and emphasized the importance of standing together.
“If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out,” the sheriff’s office urged. “You are not alone.”
