Lake Cormorant Defense Keeps Rolling
Lake Cormorant is the story of the season so far. The Gators blanked Southaven 20-0 at home, one week after a 17-0 road win at Horn Lake. According to MaxPreps, Lake Cormorant is now 5-0. Its wins include a 14-7 victory over DeSoto Central on Sept. 4 and a 42-6 rout of Columbus on Sept. 11.
The Gators’ defense has been the difference. In the Horn Lake shutout, Lake Cormorant recorded five sacks, and MaxPreps noted the unit has posted at least four sacks in every game this season. Next up is another big test: Lake Cormorant hosts South Panola on Friday, Oct. 2. The Tigers are coming off their 49-13 win over Horn Lake.
Southaven has now been shut out in back-to-back games and is looking to regroup after its lopsided early-season win over Columbus.
Center Hill Wins County Clash With Lewisburg
In the only all-DeSoto County game of the night, Center Hill beat visiting Lewisburg 48-28. The Mustangs bounced back from their loss to Hernando on Sept. 18, a double-overtime thriller that was one of the wildest finishes of the county season.
Hernando kept its momentum going with a 38-14 win over Lafayette. The Tigers stay home on Friday, Oct. 2, to face Horn Lake in another all-county matchup.
DeSoto Central Rolls; Olive Branch Falls at Senatobia
DeSoto Central put up the county’s biggest point total of the night in a 52-8 home win over Charleston. MaxPreps lists junior running back Cade Rodgers as the Jaguars’ leading rusher this season.
Olive Branch had a tough night on the road at unbeaten Senatobia. The Warriors never trailed in their 35-9 win, which dropped the Conquistadors to 2-3, according to MaxPreps. Olive Branch faces Charleston next.
Horn Lake, still looking for its first win, lost 49-13 at South Panola and turns its attention to the trip to Hernando.
