On Feb. 8, the DeSoto Civic Garden Club (DCGC) assisted the Soil and Water Conservation District with the annual Tree Giveaway that was held at BankPlus Sports Center in Southaven from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. That morning about 20 varieties of trees were given to the public.

Meleiah Tyus, coordinator who represented the DeSoto County Soil and Water Conservation District in sponsoring the event, was very pleased by the overwhelming support that made this occasion a huge success.

There were many people of different ages who came from various communities in the county to participate. One family that came brought their daughter who was three. Her mom said that she was so excited to come to the event so she could get trees to plant.

This experience of participating in activities such as the Tree Giveaway will enhance a love of gardening regardless of age. Such is the purpose of the DCGC which is to stimulate knowledge and the love of gardening among its members and the public.

The DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc.
