DCS reports increase in COVID cases, quarantines

DeSoto County Schools (DCS) has reported an increase in coronavirus cases and quarantines in the past week at its schools.

For the week ending Friday, April 16, there was a total of 22 new cases and 192 new quarantine reports at DCS schools.

The most new cases came from Hernando Middle School and Shadow Oaks Elementary School, with four new cases each.

Of the 192 new quarantines, 61 were at Hernando Middle School, according to the district’s weekly report. Twenty came from Oak Grove Central Elementary School and there were 18 students placed in quarantine last week at Shadow Oaks Elementary.

Four additional positive cases were reported among school teachers and staff in DCS for the week through Friday, April 16.
