County public hearing on budget set Tuesday

Tuesday may be when the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors makes a final determination on the county budget for the coming fiscal year.  

Supervisors have scheduled a public hearing on its proposed budget and proposed tax levies for fiscal year 2023 on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m.  It will take place in the board room on the third floor of the Administration Building located at 365 Losher Street in Hernando.

The public hearing will take place during the Board of Supervisors meeting.  The board meeting will begin at 8 a.m. on Sept. 6 with a budget work session from 8-9 a.m.  The public hearing will begin at 9 a.m.

County taxpayers can expect to not see a millage increase as a result. The current ad valorem millage rate is 41.02. Supervisors have decided not to increase the millage rate for 2023, meaning the county’s millage rate has not changed since 2005.

Any DeSoto County citizen is invited to attend this public hearing on the proposed budget and tax levies for fiscal year 2023.  Citizens will be allowed to speak for a reasonable amount of time and offer tangible evidence before any vote is taken.
