County high schools ranked in annual U.S. News and World Report list
The annual public school rankings by U.S. News and World Report includes four DeSoto County schools in the state’s top 20.
The rankings are based on the publishers’ data from nearly 24,000 public high schools and charter schools across the U.S.
Lewisburg High School leads the list, ranked third in Mississippi behind Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus and Ocean Springs High School. Figures from U.S. News and World Report show a 94 percent graduation rate and 29.6 college readiness rating. Lewisburg is also ranked third among Memphis metropolitan high schools and is third in Mississippi in state assessment proficiency.
Hernando is the second DeSoto County school ranked and is eighth in Mississippi. Hernando has a 92 percent graduation rate and a 17.6 college readiness rating. Hernando is ranked sixth among Memphis metro schools and the state assessment proficiency index ranks it fourth in Mississippi.
Center Hill is third among county high schools, ranked 12th in Mississippi, a 95 percent graduation rate and a 11.1 college readiness ranking. Center Hill is eighth in the Memphis metro and the state assessment proficiency index ranks the school 16th in Mississippi.
The fourth DeSoto County high school is DeSoto Central, which is ranked 20th in the state, has a 94 percent graduation rate and a college readiness rating of 22.6. Desoto Central is 10th among Memphis metropolitan public high schools and the state proficiency index is 59th in the state.
