City Gets $750,000 for West End Redevelopment; Roundabout Planned
City officials said Tuesday night the city received $750,000 with assistance from State Rep. Rodney Hall to invest in the West End redevelopment, and that a portion of the funds will be used to install a roundabout at Millbranch and Town & Country, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen said.
The board approved an affiliation agreement between SFD and The EMS Training School, the meeting minutes show. The agreement allows paramedic students enrolled in the online course to ride with SFD for their EMS clinicals, officials said. Construction on an addition to Fire Station No. 3 is expected to begin soon, the board said.
The Mayor’s office presented cords to the 2026 graduating members of the Mayor’s Youth Council and called Springfest a success, the mayor’s report said. The report also thanked The Inn on First and Walk On’s Sports Bistreaux for donations to the city animal shelter.
Officials provided road resurfacing updates. They said Stateline Road is about two weeks from completion. The portion of Stateline under Interstate 55 belongs to MDOT and the city is not authorized to repair it, officials said, adding they are in discussions with MDOT to combine that section with the current resurfacing project. Officials said Rasco between Tchulahoma and Getwell has been completely replaced and striped.
