Autism Awareness Art Show set for Thursday

April is Autism Awareness Month, and Southaven Arts Council is pleased to exhibit artwork by artists who participate in Little House Art Project, which is sponsored by The Arc Northwest Mississippi. Opening reception Thursday, April 7, 5:00-7:00 P.M. at M.R. Davis Southaven Public Library.

The Arc Northwest Mississippi is an advocacy organization for individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. We create educational programs and events that bring together the special needs community with their typically functioning peers in a fun and friendly environment of love and understanding. Additionally, The Arc NWMS helps families find services, programs, and information to help their disabled loved ones live a healthy, rewarding, and fulfilling life.

Little House Art Project began as an idea born of an art program for special needs children… But, why stop with artistically gifted, special needs teens? Many young adults yearn for art instruction. Little House is an opportunity for teenagers and young adults to learn about the fundamentals of art. Individuals with special needs sit right beside their typically functioning friends. Vicky Neyman, local artist and special needs advocate, leads the class in art instruction and arranges for special artist clinicians.
