Southaven’s Austin Riley is returning to play in Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game. This will be Riley’s second All-Star Game appearance and he will be a reserve infielder. He is one of eight Atlanta Braves on the National League roster, the most in franchise history.
Riley, who led his DeSoto Central high school baseball team to a MHSAA 6A state championship in 2015, has gone on to a stellar professional career. He was selected in the first round of the MLB draft in 2015 by the Atlanta Braves and has been with the Braves organization ever since. Riley’s moves up the organization culminated with his first appearance with Atlanta in 2019.
Riley’s Braves won the World Series championship in 2021 and he has won several awards during his MLB career. Last August, Riley was rewarded with the largest contract in Braves’ history, a $212 million deal on a 10-year contract extension.
This year’s All-Star Game will be played in Seattle on July 11 at T-Mobile Park.
