AG Fitch, FBI, U.S. Attorneys to Announce Joint Task Force Vigilance
Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch will join federal law enforcement leaders in Jackson on Tuesday for a press conference formally announcing Joint Task Force Vigilance, the latest joint effort to fight fraud in Mississippi.
The announcement brings together Fitch, FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff, U.S. Attorney Baxter Kruger for the Southern District of Mississippi, and U.S. Attorney Scott Leary for the Northern District of Mississippi — putting state and federal law enforcement on the same stage.
The press conference is set for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Walter Sillers Building in Jackson. Media call time is 10:45 a.m., with the program beginning at 11:00 a.m.
This is a continuation of a fraud-fighting push Fitch has championed for months. In July, her office announced the formation of a state task force aimed at fighting fraud in Mississippi, part of what she has described as a broader war on fraud affecting Mississippi families and taxpayers (read that earlier story here).
Fraud isn’t just a Jackson issue — DeSoto County families and businesses deal with scams, identity theft and financial fraud every week. A coordinated state-federal effort means more resources aimed at the schemes that hit everyday Mississippians hardest, from benefit fraud to the phone and internet scams that target seniors.

DeSoto County News will continue to follow this story as the task force’s work takes shape.
