The city of Southaven says its Welcome Home Mississippi campaign highlights community life, amenities and access to the greater Memphis area for retirees.

Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams and the city’s police and fire departments warned that scattered thunderstorms moving across northeast Mississippi could produce damaging wind gusts through the rest of the day.

The Olive Branch Police Department is accepting applications for a 10-week Citizens Police Academy running Sept. 3 to Nov. 5, 2026. The department says spots are limited.

City officials said the Sept. 26 event will serve as the grand closing of the 2026 market season, featuring vendors, presentations and children’s activities on the Wesson House lawn.

Denise’s Happy Hounds LLC said it will hold its first annual Howl-O-Weenie Pawty on Oct. 17. The organization said costume contest proceeds will benefit the Happy Hounds Pet Pantry.

Organizers said a festival set for Saturday, Sept. 26, will feature more than 150 arts and crafts vendors, a food truck row and a children’s zone with a petting zoo.

The Olive Branch Police Department will offer a 10-week Citizen Police Academy from Sept. 3 to Nov. 5, 2026, the department said. The program will include demonstrations by DUI, K9 and SWAT units and run Thursday evenings.

The Southaven Chamber will hold a morning networking event Aug. 28 offering coffee and opportunities for local businesses to connect, the chamber said.

The City of Olive Branch announced that McKinnon Skeen has joined its Parks and Recreation Department, Mayor Ken Adams and the Board of Aldermen said.

Forecasters say multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms will hit parts of the Mid-South Wednesday, with damaging winds the primary threat and large hail and flash flooding possible.
